When is it inappropriate to share your beliefs? The Miss America Pageant.
Sunday night America or someone crowned a new Miss America a beautiful girl Kristen Dalton from North Carolina. Most years there is little controversy other than the opinions of a few who have their favorites. However this year, we have a problem. Dalton didn’t win because she was the better candidate. It appears she won because she was more politically correct or maybe because someone gave an honest answer of how most of America really feels.
Miss California Carrie Prejean had the gig in the bag until she spoke what she thought the judges wanted to hear and that was the truth. Even Slimy Perez Hilton admits it while calling Prejean the b-word which he later apologized for then retracted his apology and called her the c-word. Michelle Malkin -Trash blogger retracts apology to Miss California USA; invokes the “word” You can watch the interview and be repulsed.
Slime King Perez Hilton asked this question: “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”
“Well I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other,- 21-year-old Miss California, Carrie Prejean said.
“We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage,” she continued.
“You know what, in my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there.”
Miss California had an eloquent answer. She stated that there is nothing wrong with being gay. She stated that she thought it was a states’ rights issue and they should decide it for themselves. She closed the question by stating her beliefs that she believes marriage is between a man and a woman. She gave them the truth but they couldn’t handle the truth.
Perez Hilton was trolling for victims. His question was loaded. It was an atomic bomb of a question: a life sucker from which there was no escape. He knew it. The audience knew it. Prejean knew it. Carrie Prejean was led like a lamb to the slaughter because Hilton is a gory glory hound. After all Hilton makes a living by crucifying people.
I think that this girl did something amazing. She stood up gave an honest answer and stated her beliefs. Isn’t that what the question wanted? An honest answer as to why or why not. Prejean knew that the question had to be answered with the truth. Eveyone who mattered in her life was watching. She had no other choice: a true American hero standing firm in her ideals even when they may be viewed as unpopular.
I am glad that she didn’t waffle she stood tall and was what America is all about. Carrie Prejean showed tremendous courage. She didn’t go with what would almost certainly win her the crown. She stayed true to herself, her family and her friends. I applaud her. I feel bad for the media who fail to understand that the First Amendment applies to beauty queens and not just the media.
Just as a reminder of The First Amendment.:
Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
