Rewarding the Military for Not Shooting

in My Rants

Recently it was brought to my attention that the NATO is encouraging the US Military to create a new medal/badge for not shooting.

WTF? Reward soldiers for not killing? Are we serious? Isn’t this an oxymoron?

I think this is a huge mistake. If you are going to bother to have a military in my mind it should be a scary organization. By scary I mean tough… a group of warriors that the mere mention of their name brings the fear of God and our enemies pee their pants in fear.

I believe this because these three statements are true.

“War is a mere continuation of politics by other means”, Carl von Clausewitz.

“No one ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country,” George S. Patton

“Americans play to win at all times. I wouldn’t give a hoot and hell for a man who lost and laughed. That’s why Americans have never lost nor ever lose a war. “ George S. Patton

Why fight if we aren’t in it to win it?

Contrary to the new world of political correctness movement, it’s ok to be a selfish nation of self interests. We need to look out for the best interests of our people; if we can help others along the way that’s great and should be encouraged but America first.

If countries or groups want to attack America I want them to know that the full fury and might of America will be cast down upon them like the gates of hell opening, releasing an apocalypse of fire.

But what about innocent civilians?  Innocent people have always been a victim in war. I don’t believe anyone intentionally kills innocent people but our enemies today hide amongst woman and children as cowards.  Too much concern about civilians clouds our vision and puts the goal of victory in jeopardy.  The Japanese would not have surrendered if we hadn’t dropped two nuclear bombs killing hundreds of thousands of people.

General Stanley McChrystal has handcuffed our ability to win the war in Afghanistan and he continues to lessen our odds by creating silly rules of engagement for our troops.  We have gone from being the military genius rebels in The American Revolution to trading positions with the British.

“Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results. “ George S. Patton

I believe today that America probably would not be able to win World War II because of our softness towards our enemies.
